And gee... What is their teacher thinking?! Why cannot it be some happier topic?! Lonely, Falling Leaves,....
Dear Mr. Tree,
How are you doing? I don’t know if you recognize me. I am one of the hundreds other leaves in your life. Sorry to bother you, as I know your time is very precious for someone like me. Today I write you this letter, because I am leaving you soon.
First of all, thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve you in the past year. Although my purpose of living is to support you, the water your provide me with make me what I am. I hope you do not mind me saying this. But I do feel that we share the same life this year. Without you, there is no purpose of my existence.
Throughout the spring and summer, I have passed you everything I have got. With all the energy provided me from the sun, I make you foods. I don’t know how much use my effort is to you. But even if it were just a tiny bit that will contribute towards your future, I would be very glad.
With the time we are together, I believe we also make contribution towards the others. On a rainy day, we provide shelter for passerby. On a sunny day, our shadow gives them a place to gather and rest. And I will always remember the time we have together.
It is now autumn of the year. And the cold and windy winter is coming ahead. I sincerely hope that the nutrients I provided you with will help you passing through the difficult time of your life. If you ever feel tired or frustrated, please remember the time we had together. And please use the nutrients I have left you with. I have all the faith in the world that you will survive any tough time and live with your true color.
I regret that I have to leave you in this tough time of yours. As time has come, I have no choice but leaving. In the near future, you will have new leaves. And you will probably forget about me soon. But don’t feel bad about this. This is life. People come and people go. You are still very young. There is a long road ahead waiting for you.
Please don’t’ worry about me. I have talked to Mr. Wind. He promised not to take me very far from you. One the soil, I will watch over you. And in time, I will turn into the minerals in the soil. I will always be there to support you when you need me.
Finally, thanks again for everything you give me. Sometimes I do feel that you’re offering me more than what I am giving you. Therefore, please accept my sincere gratitude.
Best wishes,
Lindberg
